Play/Date: An Improvised Speed Dating Experiment

Tired of the "resume" style of first dates? Bored with the same small talk? It’s time to trade the algorithm for some actual chemistry.

This Is Not a Show—You’re Going on a Date

Play/Date: An Improvised Speed Dating Experiment isn’t a performance where you sit in the dark and watch improvisers be funny. You are the main character. This is a high-energy, interactive singles event designed to help you meet people in the most fun way possible.

NOTE: On July 25, we’ll present our first-ever BuddyUp event—an event designed to connect people looking to widen their social circles and meet new friends (non-romantic, that is).

Why Improv?

Improv is the ultimate wingman. It’s all about being present, listening, and saying “yes” to the moment. We use the tools of improv to strip away the awkwardness of traditional speed dating. By stepping into a lighthearted “what if” version of yourself, the pressure to be “perfect” disappears, making room for genuine laughter and sparky connections.

Feedback from our prior events:

  • “This was the first dating event I’ve gone to after ending a really long (10+ year) relationship and it really helped break the ice and has me feeling more confident dating in general. I really love what y’all are doing, thank you.”
  • “This was so much more comfortable than traditional dating. I heard people say it was cool to try something out of their comfort zone.”
  • “I had a really great time though and am really glad I signed up. I was pretty nervous but you all definitely took your time in creating a warm and playful environment.”

How It Works

You’ll be guided through a series of short, playful mini-dates where you can explore a slightly different version of your own life path. Think of it as a “choose your own adventure” for your romantic life. Our expert facilitators will be there to keep the energy high and the vibes low-pressure—ensuring the only thing you have to focus on is having a great time. Everyone will be participating at the same time, so you’ll never be put ‘on the spot’.

Note: This event is intended for men seeking women and women seeking men. We plan to offer a version of this event for the LGBTQ community this fall!
