Everyone knows that improv comedy is off-the-cuff and unpredictable by nature. Well, WIT’s taking things a step further!

We’re giving teams in DC the chance to throw their hat in the ring to perform on the WIT stage during our winter run! (Well, to be more precise, we’re pulling team names from a hat.)

In order to play, performers should plan to attend the show (or shows) they hope to be selected for. (Be sure to be present at the start of the show to submit your team). Four teams will be chosen to perform short sets.

Teams can be made up of experimental groups, duos, rehearsal buddies, long-standing indie teams … you name it.  We’re encouraging teams who are set to compete in the 2024 Fighting Improv Smackdown Tournament (FIST) to take advantage of The Playground to get some facetime in front of an audience (and see how your fellow competitors do on stage … all in the spirit of good fun, of course!)

Each show will close with a headliner performance—either Student-Teacher Conference (which combines WIT faculty members with students whos names are drawn out of a hat) or a Mystery Team that’s created on the spot (this time, we’re drawing individual names out of the old hat). These 5 PM performances are free for anyone to watch. Everyone is welcome to be in the audience, including the general public.

Accessibility information

This performance will take place in the Milton Theatre on the second floor, reachable by stairs or elevator. Most seats in the Milton require the use of some stairs in the theater.
