WIT ensemble Nox! announces auditions

WIT ensemble Nox! seeks new members.

Nox! is especially interested in expanding and diversifying its voices and strongly encourages people of color, LGBTQIA+ people, women, Genderqueer and nonbinary people, and performers of all abilities to audition.

Stylistically, we’re looking for cast members who can demonstrate a combination of the following:

  • Play a variety of characters with emotional commitment.
  • Make bold, confident choices.
  • Listen.
  • Be adaptable as scenes take fresh turns.
  • Play to your best goofy, kooky, loony self. (Yes all of them.)
  • Track characters, scenes, and themes to look for fun connections throughout a show.
  • Investment in support and success, on and off stage.
  • Confidence to unabashedly be yourself by demonstrating your ideas and comedic voice.
  • Chris Ulrich says, “Bonus points for a ‘Kind Soul’.”

AUDITION BLOCKS:

  • Tues., Aug. 6 from 7 PM to 10 PM at the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) at 1419 Columbia Rd NW, Washington, DC 20009

SIGN-UP DEADLINE: Mon., July 22 at 11:59 PM.

Please review the eligibility requirements for auditions below BEFORE signing up.

Requirements & Commitment:

Nox! is looking for players who have completed the WIT curriculum (or equivalent) and have a minimum of 2 years of improv performance experience in the WIT or local improv community, and are willing to commit to being on a WIT Ensemble. That means auditioners should:

  • Have experience performing on a WIT Harold Team, a WIT project show, FIST team, or an indie team that regularly performed around the DC area.
  • Have the availability to rehearse every other week on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 PM to 9:30 PM.
  • Commit to performing in one show per week during WIT runs. Nox! shows tend to be on Fridays or Saturdays in 4 to 6-week intervals, followed by a 4 to 6-week break. Please see this past year’s schedule here as an example of how often WIT hosts a show run.
  • Commit to attending rehearsals and shows. Of course, we’re all adults and things like vacation and illness happen, but accepted players are expected to prioritize attending. In general, if a player’s attendance falls below 75% we would want to discuss if this is the right commitment for you.

Finalized audition schedule will be emailed to all eligible individuals no later than Thurs., July 25.

Audition slots are limited, so if necessary, priority will be given to the most experienced improvisers and those who best align with the ensemble’s recruitment goals.

About Nox!:

A long-running WIT ensemble, Nox! thrives on creating shows that are simultaneously patient and high energy, yet fearless in going physical and dark. We enjoy experimenting with different structures, and have created original formats as well as our take on existing ones. We love the hell out of each other, with a side of gleeful roasting. We respect that we are adults with day jobs, but we stay connected daily. We take pride in our radical support of each other and are able to have honest conversations with one another, which can be difficult in the moment, but always leads to us growing closer as a group. Come play with us!

Current cast: Aaron Mosby, Aubrey Peterson, Bethany Stokes, Chris Ulrich, Geoff Corey, John Heiser, Matt Winterhalter, Nina Hsu, and Tandra Turner
