Advanced Format: Close Quarters with Jeff Bollen (8 weeks starting June 24) – Close Quarters—the format that puts every scene in the same large location happening at the exact same moment. Learning Close Quarters will change the way you think about improv. Students will learn to craft a show where all the scenes are related; you get to experience joy and success from making connections across multiple story threads.
Advanced Scenework Intensive with Mark Chalfant (7 weeks starting June 26) – Delve into a rich toolkit of perspectives and techniques – all designed to sharpen your focus and raise the stakes on stage. As the Artistic/Executive Director of Washington Improv Theater, Mark will share his extensive performance and teaching experience directly to you, offering personal support to help you unlock your full potential.
Heighten and Justify with Jordana Mishory (4 weeks starting June 30) – You started the scene and clearly established your deal and dynamic, but the scene still feels hard. What happens next you ask? The answer is of course heightening and justifying!
Organic Initiations and Scene Dynamics with Jordana Mishory (4 weeks starting July 23) – A blank stage can feel scary. It has to be filled, but with what? While there is NO SUCH THING as a perfect initiation, there are techniques to help you more easily hop off the back line and start a scene. This class will help you more easily set yourself up for success by making a choice at the top of a scene, actively listening to yourself and your scene partner, and then fully committing.
