Magnet Theater’s Bianca Casusol and Megan Gray to Teach Workshops

As part of Improv Saves the World, WIT is pleased to present Magnet Theater’s legendary Armando Diaz Experience on July 26 at 9:30 PM. And we’re extra pleased to host workshops from Magnet players Megan Gray and Bianca Casusol throughout that weekend.

On Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28, Gray and Casusol are offering five different workshops focusing on a variety of improv skills to help players get out of their ruts, sharpen their tools, and refresh their scenework.

Take a look below at the offerings:

Surprise Party with Bianca Casusol
Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 12:00PM
Scenework stale? In a character rut? In this workshop we’ll use our minds and bodies to play and find fun gifts to surprise ourselves and our scene partners with to rediscover how joyful improv can be when there’s no “right” answer. A mix of scenework and individual character exercises will leave you with the tools to create memorable and unique characters with distinct perspectives.

Slow Down, Do Less with Megan Gray
Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 12:00PM
Slowing down doesn’t mean that you have to have a dull or boring scene. Doing less doesn’t mean that you’re just sitting in the scene. The combination can keep your audience interested and engaged over a longer period of time while you and your partner discover a world unfolding around you without all the fuss.

This workshop isn’t a sprint, it’s a long distance run. We’ll work on listening, maintaining a single point of view and delving into the minutiae of character in two and three person scenes. Let’s ground into the scene and make each moment last.

The Right Choice is the Active Choice with Megan Gray
Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 4:00PM
You can do anything in a scene — but do you find yourself talking more than you’re doing? You might be making lateral choices, rather than the active choices which can propel you and your scene partner forward.

This workshop will work on making the distinction between active and passive choices, the best way to make them in the scene, and how to react once they’re made.

The Gifts that Keep on Giving with Bianca Casusol
Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 4:00PM
How to gift yourself and others in a way that creates a real, grounded relationships that have fun, relationship based games — the kind you can keep playing. We’ll focus on how to expand on the gifts that we’ve given ourselves and others.

Stay in the Moment You’re In with Megan Gray
Sunday, July 28, 2019, at 12:00PM
Scenes can move quickly, but that doesn’t mean that we have to rush moment to moment. Most of the time you have everything you need within the first minute of the scene.

This workshop will focus on mining and exploring the first moments of the scene and then heightening from there. There’s no need for invention, you already have everything you need; you just need to take the time to recognize it.
