POTUS Among Us: Beyond Belief with special guest Rachel Louise Snyder (author, “Women We Buried, Women We Burned”)

What’s the truth about WIT's (fictitious) presidential candidates? Come find out–and maybe spread some of your own rumors along the way.

Washington Improv Theater’s unscripted election satire POTUS Among Us: Beyond Belief celebrates its twentieth anniversary with a 2024 edition that puts audiences in control of the candidates’ identities as well as their political future. This year’s edition explores rumor and misinformation—how do we understand truth in an age of misinformation. And what role do we all play in spreading rumors?
Each performance introduces a different motley cast of candidates running to be commander-in-chief. These outlandish characters will combat (or spread) misinformation, face off in debates, and take on rumors (perhaps started by the audience themselves!). The audience will help narrow the field down to two final candidates and ultimately vote to elect a winner each night.

ABOUT THE GUEST: RACHEL LOUISE SNYDER is the author of Fugitive Denim: A Moving Story of People and Pants in the Borderless World of Global Trade, the novel What We’ve Lost is Nothing, No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us and the memoir Women We Buried, Women We Burned (May ’23), a best book of the year from Kirkus and Audible, among others. Her work has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times magazine, the Washington Post and on NPR, and she was a 2021 Guggenheim Fellow. No Visible Bruises was awarded the 2018 Lukas Work-in-Progress Award, the 2020 Book Tube Prize, the 2020 New York Public Library’s Bernstein Award for Excellence in Journalism and the Sidney Hillman Book Award for social justice. She is currently a professor in creative writing in the MFA program at  American University.
