POTUS Among Us: Beyond Belief with special guest Allan Lichtman (historian at American University)

What’s the truth about WIT's (fictitious) presidential candidates? Come find out–and maybe spread some of your own rumors along the way.

Washington Improv Theater’s unscripted election satire POTUS Among Us: Beyond Belief celebrates its twentieth anniversary with a 2024 edition that puts audiences in control of the candidates’ identities as well as their political future. This year’s edition explores rumor and misinformation—how do we understand truth in an age of misinformation. And what role do we all play in spreading rumors?
Each performance introduces a different motley cast of candidates running to be commander-in-chief. These outlandish characters will combat (or spread) misinformation, face off in debates, and take on rumors (perhaps started by the audience themselves!). The audience will help narrow the field down to two final candidates and ultimately vote to elect a winner each night.

ABOUT THE GUEST: ALLAN LICHTMAN is a historian who co-created the Keys to the White House model with Vladimir Keilis-Borok in 1981. The model makes news every four years for its continued accuracy in predicting whether the presidential candidate of the incumbent party will win or lose the next election. Lichtman is also a professor of history at American University, and the author of the 2017 nonfiction book The Case for Impeachment.
