Washington Improv TheaterKristin has been playing piano professionally for over 30 years but only recently discovered the joy of making up songs in front of a paying audience.
Kristin Stowell is a music director, composer, pianist, arranger, orchestrator, copyist, and educator based in Washington, DC Recent credits include serving as the music supervisor for the national tours of Legally Blonde, The Music Man and The Cher Show and as the music director and keyboardist for the world premiere production and original cast recording of Mystic Pizza. Kristin’s original musical Endometriosis: The Musical recently made its international debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it was awarded “Best Musical” by Theatre Weekly. Kristin is on the faculty at American University, where she teaches courses in music and theater.
Kristin’s first entry into musical improv was in the late 1900s when she would proudly make up songs about the weather, one of which survives today (“Mr. Sun”). Kristin’s first professional entry into musical improv was in Minneapolis accompanying The Bearded Company. At WIT, she plays for the Musical Improv Conservatory (go Basketball Cats!) and iMusical. She loves getting to make up musical theater songs on the spot with her talented cast mates and can always been seen laughing out loud the entire show.
