WIT launches Laughing Matters campaign to lift and fortify spirits in the DMV
Seeking out and prioritizing joy is an essential act of resistance in troubled times. When your spirit is depleted and you’re running on fumes both mentally and emotionally, it can be tough to make it through the day… much less look after and contribute to everything you care about.
In the face of political upheaval and economic uncertainty, people in our region are feeling the pressure. To that end, Washington Improv Theater is proud to announce the launch of Laughing Matters — a campaign to raise and fortify the spirits of DMV residents.
Key components include:
- Improv for All Workshops: Monthly, free introductory improv workshops that are specifically intended for current and former federal employees, and made possible through the support of The Potter’s House in Adams Morgan.
- Targeted Performances & Discounts: Our performances, including those by our science-loving ensemble The Hypothesis, highlight the value of federal employees and DC change makers. We continue our commitment to offering low-cost tickets, including a deeply discounted offer for furloughed federal employees (use code IMAFED for our Laugh Riot shows).
- Skills-building & Free Classes: Our organizational training arm WIT@Work offers free virtual workshops for former federal employees, who want to gain real-world skills — in areas such as interviewing and negotiating with confidence — while having fun in the process!
WIT’s works year-round to use the transformative power of improvisation to inspire connection, build resilience, and fuel the movement for a stronger city. Laughing Matters is a powerful declaration of this commitment, bringing our mission off the stage and directly into the heart of the community. We believe that “Community Over Chaos” is powered by play.
This evolving campaign unites all of WIT’s targeted activities that are designed to support Washingtonians in dealing with instability and uncertainty.
We invite everyone to learn more about our campaign and join a growing network of DMV residents, who believe that joy and connection are key components of both resilience and resistance.
