This show will bring some joy to the world of academia as universities go online and freeze hiring, and grad students are isolated and anxious at their job prospects, while feeding our inner nerds and learning new things from first hand experts in the process of doing comedy! The show will start with a live interview of a student or recent grad, and will give the opportunity for the audience to submit questions. The team of comedians will then improvise a comedy show inspired from the interview, before bringing back the guest to wrap up the show and answer a final audience generated question.
Cast: Erick Acuña, Sarah Bucher, James Jelin, Tess Higgins, Béatrice Leydier, Cara Popecki, Alan Prunier, Morgan Smalley, Renan Snowden

This week’s guests:

Adam Fishbein is a PhD candidate in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. He uses behavioral and neurophysiological methods to ask how birds process sound sequences. He is interested in how birdsong compares to human language and how humans evolved our linguistic abilities. Throughout his PhD experience, he has also been doing improv in the DC-area withteams TFA and Thank You for Sharing.

Elizabeth (Liz) Tapanes is a PhD candidate in Human Paleobiology at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. She uses genomics and phenotyping to ask how non-human primates (lemurs, apes, and monkeys) have evolved such colorful and complex hair patterns! She is broadly interested in the evolution of biodiversity, from fishes to lemurs to humans. With her spare time, she enjoys being outside in nature, cooking, and watching crappy reality to tv.

Liz and Adam are also engaged! They had their first date at Quarry House Tavern over
four years ago. They love spending time with their cat Lulu (and curating her Instagram feed!).
